Training on Climate Risk Management and Strengthening Resilience to Hydrological Extremes Held in Goražde within the SVAP project

A training titled “Climate Risks Management and Strengthening Resilience to Hydrological Extremes, Including Droughts and Floods” was organized in Goražde last month, with the aim of building the capacity of local stakeholders to respond to the increasingly frequent impacts of climate change. The training was held as part of the project “SVAP – Rapid Watersheed Assessment in the Western Balkans – PHASE II”, funded by the U.S. Forest Service and Department of Defense EUCOM and the Forest Service International Foundation.
📍 The training brought together more than 20 participants from various sectors, including representatives of local self-government units from the Drina River Basin, civil protection services, water management institutions, as well as representatives of the non-governmental sector.

🔍 During the training, participants were introduced to key concepts and tools for:

  • Identifying and assessing climate risks at the local level;

  • Understanding the causes and consequences of hydrological extremes such as floods and droughts;

  • Developing local adaptation plans;

  • Strengthening cross-sectoral cooperation for timely response and mitigation of climate-related events.

📚 The training also included practical exercises, group work, and discussions on the specific challenges faced by municipalities within the Drina River Basin, along with an exchange of experiences and good practices.

We extend our sincere thanks to all participants for their active engagement, expert discussions, and dedication to building more resilient communities.

➡️ By strengthening the capacities of local stakeholders, we are taking an important step toward a more effective response to climate challenges and the preservation of resources for future generations.
