REC was established in 1998, at that time as the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC CEE), and since 2019 it operates as an independent organization and successor of REC CEE in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Through many years of experience, knowledge and expertise, REC has provided professional, technical, educational, and logistical support in the field of environmental protection, sustainable development, reduction or mitigation of climate change, regional development, nature conservation and biodiversity as well as the European integration through development, promotion and the application of the best and latest methodologies and technologies.

REC acts as an expert, information sharing, and advisory Center to environmental civil society organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
