The nature that surrounds us is not merely a place we visit. It is part of our lives, our identity, and the legacy we leave to future generations.
That is why we are especially pleased that yesterday we signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Municipality of Donji Vakuf for the preparation of an Expert Study supporting the designation of the Semešnica – Plazenica area as a protected area.
With the support of Sweden through the FUTURE project, Bosnia and Herzegovina is receiving stronger professional and institutional support for the designation of new protected areas, improved management of existing ones, preservation of natural values, and more active involvement of local communities in their protection.
The Municipality of Donji Vakuf had previously secured part of the earmarked funding, amounting to BAM 60,000, through a programme of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, while REC BiH will co-finance the remaining amount required for the preparation of a comprehensive expert study through the FUTURE project.
This is an area of exceptional natural value, known for its clean watercourses, springs, rich flora and fauna, as well as being one of the favourite places for recreation, excursions, and spending time in nature.
An important professional process now lies ahead, including detailed field research, mapping of natural values, surveys of flora and fauna, and the definition of protection zones and protection regimes. The results of this work will provide the basis for continuing the process of designating Semešnica – Plazenica as a protected area.
Protecting this area is not only about nature conservation. It is also an opportunity to develop its potential responsibly and sustainably in the long term, through sustainable tourism, support to the local community, and the preservation of natural resources for generations to come.
Semešnica – Plazenica is much more than a recreational area. It is water, forests, biodiversity, memories, and a place worth preserving.
🌊 We protect our waters.
🌳 We protect our forests.
🦋 We protect biodiversity.
🤝 We build partnerships for the long-term protection of nature.
🤝 And we lay the foundations for sustainable development.
