With the meetings held on September 12 and 13, 2023, with the directors of the Centers for the Education of Judges and Prosecutors from the Republic of Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mr. Tomislav Čavić and Mr. Arben Murtezić, the Resource Environmental Center continues its activities within the NEST project.
The meetings discussed the implementation of future activities that need to be undertaken, and above all, the organization of training for judges and prosecutors with the aim of strengthening capacity and improving the legal framework regarding the transposition of the EU Directive on environmental crimes (Environmental Crime Directive) into the national legislation.
The professional training program for judges and prosecutors, which will be organized in cooperation with organizations and institutions from the EU and Centers for the education of judges and prosecutors, will offer judicial institutions in BiH the opportunity to learn more about the valid laws and by-laws that have been adopted in BiH in the field of environmental protection in the last two years. Also, they will get acquainted with the judicial practices of EU countries in terms of environmental protection in terms of provisions of the Aarhus Convention, to learn more about the EU Directive on Environmental Crimes, but also the opportunity to share experiences and challenges they are facing with in daily work when it comes to the prosecution of environmental crimes and environmental protection both in BiH and the EU.
